Terpenes

The terpene profile of cannabinoids is complex. It takes a discerning nose and experience to be able to detect the nuances a specific cultivar possesses. Terpenes are present in many plants, however, one of the reasons why cannabis is so unique in the botanical kingdom is due to high concentration of terpenes. Terpenes are like a unique fingerprint of the plant. These “fingerprints” will vary between cultivars based on how a plant is grown as well as its genetic makeup.

Train your nose

Most cannabis cultivars have one or two distinct notes. Often, these notes cover up the more subtle nuances contained in the terpene profile. Train your nose to be able to detect the other notes in the cultivar. What do you smell first? What else can you smell? The more you practice, the better you will become.
